Day 17. This excellent cover of Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World appeared on Don’t Worry About Me, Joey Ramone’s solo album which was released posthumously as he sadly died during its production.
For my money, it’s an absolute tour-de-force of Pop Punk. Distorted Punk riffs, a powerful, simple rhythm section & Joey Ramone’s gloriously soulful vocals combine to make one of my favourite covers of all time.
The video also reminds me that I too used to own a green N64 controller.
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them blue before me and youAnd I think to myself
What a wonderful worldI see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred nightAnd I think to myself
What a wonderful worldThe colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Or also on the faces of people going byI see friends shaking hands, saying “How do you do?”
They’re really saying, I love youI hear babies crying, I watch them them grow
They’ll learn much more and I’ll never knowAnd I think to myself
What a wonderful worldYes, I think to myself
What a wonderful worldOh yeah
